Lake Shore Trees at Silver Bay

I have been going to Silver Bay whenever possible for almost 40 years, most especially during the last 20 as our family would take vacation time there to attend an annual conference and enjoy the hiking, boating, and other recreational opportunities for a week’s stay each summer. For my children, this proved to be “summer camp” for them, where they would re-connect with the same playmates over the years.

During these past 20 years I have painted this scene from the same location almost a dozen times in oil and watercolor, simply because it hasn’t looked the same on each return visit- the colors keep changing due to the seasonal weather conditions. Through this unintentional time-lapse making of art, one slice of time each year, I have enjoyed the opportunity to re-evaluate the way I see my surroundings and use my paints and brushes. This examination of process and personal development was never planned. It was a benefit that just came of its own over the succeeding years because of the works, and has afforded me a comparative view into my past and the way I painted, and have changed.
