From My Sketchbook:
I went up to Yorktown Heights, New York, to visit my college roommate and his family, and while there I was taken around to see local sites and places of interest. One of these was “The Peekskill Coffee House” on South Division Street, in downtown Peekskill.
We had been walking around the neighborhood visiting art galleries in town, and following the third gallery we decided that having a cup of coffee and snack was in order. My friend was familiar with a place just around the corner from us where we could get out of the cold, relax, visit and reflect on art work we had seen. This was a delightfully quaint independent coffee shop, a former old corner store with tin ceiling tiles, wide hardwood floor boards, 19th century baseboard trim and moldings, large plate glass windows, a cozily arranged assortment of mismatched small tables and chairs, and an eclectic assortment of large burlap coffee bags from around the world used as wall hangings.
The setting was delightful, the coffee excellent, and pastries were fresh homemade. It wasn’t long before I had my sketchbook out and was at work recording a view of the main counter and coffee bar, while enjoying conversation with my friend, listening to live acoustic guitar and vocal music, and sharing our table and Valentine’s Day Chocolates with strangers.
