About the Artist

My art explores the beauty of landscapes and the effects of light, capturing scenes from nature and everyday life.

Influences and Inspirations

Landscapes, with their diverse locations and ever-changing light and weather, have always captivated me. I find great pleasure in observing and translating these scenes into art, including landscapes of the figure, interiors, and still-life.

I’m particularly drawn to areas with hills, valleys, and water, such as Central New York State and the Adirondack regions. I appreciate how a landscape can catch you unawares, revealing a space for contemplation or reflection, for beholding what is otherwise familiar or commonplace with fresh new insight and interest.

Teaching & Training

My journey in art includes extensive academic training and teaching experience:

  • Studio art and art education degrees at both college and graduate levels
  • Teaching experience spanning middle school, secondary, and college levels
  • Gallery work and exhibit co-curation

I’ve had the privilege of studying with remarkable artist-teachers:

  • Guy Corriero and Martin Mugar (painting)
  • Frank Eckmar and Roy Nydorf (printmaking)
  • Additional workshops and private studies with Mario Cooper, Robert Noel Blair, Valerie Craig, and Giovanni Casadei

Recent Work and Locations

The works presented here showcase my recent explorations in various media, alongside some older pieces. Many of these are inspired by favorite locations in upstate New York, local views near my home in East Central Indiana, and scenes from my time in south-eastern Pennsylvania, as well as various vacation spots. I am particularly interested in the effects of light on both interior and exterior settings, influenced by time of day, weather, and seasonal changes.

Water in its many forms — creeks, rivers, ponds, lakes, fog, and snow — is a recurring theme. I’m fascinated by water’s ability to be opaque, translucent, transparent, and reflective, and how these qualities shape our perceptions and emotions.

The artwork presented here represents my ongoing exploration across different media and subjects. Like my paintings, this website will continue to evolve – check back for new additions to the galleries and blog entries.
