The Red House (in Winter)
Oil on Canvas, 16x20 inches, April 2014

2014 Merit Award, in the Annual Juried Art Exhibit at the Preble County Fine Arts Center, Eaton, Ohio

I began this painting following an unexpected heavy snowfall in mid-March. By the next couple days much of the snow had already melted but I was fortunate enough to have the work blocked in on the canvas and enough information during the following days to nearly complete the painting. It wasn’t until a couple weeks later that we had another dusting of snow overnight that I was able to put the last of the finishing touches on the piece during the following day. I was particularly pleased to finish it when I did, because I had hopes that it would dry in time to have it framed and entered into an upcoming exhibit soon after.

This is a view of a neighbor’s Victorian Period brick home as seen from looking out of my art studio window. It is and interesting and attractive structure to study, which I enjoy looking at during various seasons, weather conditions and times of day, especially when sitting out on my front porch while enjoying a cup of coffee.
